Japanese eyebrow drawing or powder brows

Japanese eyebrow drawing, aka microblading, is a technique of semi-permanent brow drawing that became a thing 25 years ago in Asia. The technique of inserting pigments into the skin began thousands of years ago, and microblading gained its popularity in 2005 in Asian countries. In America and Europe, the technique was used in 2010. It’s hard to tell when microblading technique was initiated, especially due to numerous names for the very same technique. Japanese brow drawing or microblading is essentially the same thing. The technique of semi-permanent hair drawing that follow your natural brow growth for the most natural appearance.

How does japanese brow drawing (microblading) process look like?

Microblading is a technique of semi-permanent 3D brow ‘hair’ drawing, also called a ‘brow architecture’. Microblading technique achieves a fuller brow look and it’s done in a way that manually drawn hairs follow the growth of your natural brows, for a natural look. By manual drawing, the pigment enters the surface layer of skin and for a period of 1-2 years, you have long-lasting brows.

The treatment is done on people who wish to have thicker brows, but is also an ideal technique for those who suffer from alopecia and don’t have brow hairs. Microblading is done on clients who went through chemotherapy and lost their brows in the process. In Marra studio, microblading technique is done in a way in which your brows look as natural as possible, regardless of the current brow condition.

Why opt for japanese brow drawing?

One of the advantaged of microblading are perfectly drawn eyebrows, meaning you don’t need to fill them in with brow pencils or eyeshadows. You will no longer spend time grooming your brows or filling them in, which is also why permanent makeup is highly requested. Furthermore, your brows will last in the worst time conditions – sounds like an ad? – No, we’re totally honest! With the help of microblading your brows will be long-lasting through summer heat, sports activities, swimming in the ocean and more. Another advantage is that in only 90 minutes your have perfect brows which won’t need a brow pencil in the fututre – just think about how many minutes you spend daily trying to perfect your own brows!

The biggest advantage for some is that the treatment is completely painless, and any discomfort is minimized by using a high quality anesthetic.

How is microblading similar to powder brows?

When it comes to the treatment itself, the prep is the same and so are the pigments. Powder brows are longer-lasting, but we’ll talk more about that later. When we speak of pigments, the colors are always adjusted to your natural brow color, hair color, skin tone and the like. Prior to both treatments, a sketch is drawn by hand with which we then do your brows in the desired technique. Both techniques are semi-permanent, meaning that the pigment will eventually loose intensity, and your brows will be lighter. Further, the pigments we use are sensitive to UV rays, so your brows will fade quicker if your like spending time in the sun. The brows will never be too dark or change color – because the pigmentation is on the surface layer of skin. Your brow hairs, if you have them, will grow and fall out depending on their life span, because the pigmentation will not affect their growth or loss.

powder brows & pros

Powder technique is different to microblading in many ways. Powder brows are shaded with a micro needle which penetrates the surface layer of skin and inserts tiny pigment particles, i.e. pixels, so a shadow is created on the brows, making them look very natural. Furthermore, powder brows aren’t done manually, but with an appartus with which we can adjust the amount of pixels, i.e. the density of the pigment. That said, your brows can be more defined and thick or softer, lightly shaded – as you prefer, and based on your current brow condition. One of the advantages of powder technique is that you can cover any previous pigmentation, so it’s ideal for camouflage in case the pigmetns have faded or even changed their tone as a consequence of unprofessional micropigmentation. The powder technique is less invasve than microblading, and lasts up to 3 years. With powder brows, the shape itself remains as the pigment looses intensity and the brows become lighter and lighter. The biggest advantage of powder brows is that you have neat brows for much longer, because situations such as fading pigment in certain areas won’t happen, for example the beginnings of your brows, i.e. your t-zone, which is often oilier than the rest of your face.
